John Dyer a 60 year member of the order
installed as Outer Guard at age 91
7-31 John Dyre
John Dyer has made Charity Lodge Knights of Pythias very proud of him because of his commitment to his Lodge and to the Community. John was installed as Outer Guard of Charity Lodge No. 10 at age 91! He was born July 14, 1917 in the Arizona Territory and move to Virginia when he was 3 years old. After he graduated from Maury High School he enlisted in the Army and saw action during World War II in the European Theater - he has 5 Battle Stars on his ETO ribbon . Honorably discharged in 1946 he returned to Norfolk and started his career at the Post Office. He married, had a daughter and 2 sons and spent the next 31 years before retiring as assistant manager of the local branch. In 1947 John was Knighted in Charity Lodge and has been a beacon of dedication ever since. His commitment to exercise is his secret to long and youthful life. You can always see him moving furniture around the lodge in preparation of rental or Lodge activities. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday John make himself available to serve Charity Lodge doing all.the mundane tasks without grumbling and with a smile on his face. Over the years John has been the recipient of the Pythian of the Month award on several occasions. He has distinguished himself at the Norfolk Y.M.C.A. by his outstanding service and continues to exercise and live an active life. We believe Charity has the oldest / youngest Outer Guard in the order and we will continue to see his dedication as he serves thru the chairs and more!
