Having achieved 50 years of membership, Brooklynite Bernard Balter, was presented with his 50 year Certificate and Pin at a special ceremony held in his honor at his home in Canarsie.
Now 95 years of age, Balter is homebound but several members of the lodge including Abe Greenberg, Chancellor Commander of Genesis Lodge #64 Knights of Pythias together with members Sid Wieder, Lowell Goldberg, Sid Korman and Harvey Findling visited Brother Balter, who is homebound at his home in Canarsie, for this special ceremony.
Brother Balter was truly impressed and since this was also his 95th Birthday Party, it was all the more impressive. Additionally it was very appropriate that his family, friends and healthcare workers were in attendance. Balter reminisced about the many meetings and events he attended at the Lodge.
The family thanked the members of Genesis Lodge and commended them for not forgetting a Senior Brother and making this a day which Brother Balter, friends, and family will all cherish

Fayona Hopkins was born March 16th, 1909 to EDWARD AND Ida Smith, and grew up in Painesville, Ohio. Fayona has one sister who is 98 years of age. Fayona joined the Pythian Sisters in the spring of 1929.
She married Harold Hopkins in the 30’s.Her husband worked for the Railroad and was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He passed away in 1973. They had two daughters. Marilyn married Ray McNeal. The other daughter passed away in 1999. Fayona has 4 great grand children which she adores. Her father and mother were members of the Knights and Sisters also. Fayona was a District Deputy in 1946 in Painesville, Ohio. Harold and Fayona moved to Indiana in the late 40’s. Fayona transferred to Wayne Temple #432, Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1947, and then transferred to Maumee Temple #428 New Haven, Indiana in 1999. She holds the office of Junior now. Fayona has held every office in the Temple.
Fayona has attended many Grand Temple Meetings and has seen many changes. Fayona has many fond memories of the Temple Meetings and of the Sisters friendships and has really enjoyed working with the Pythian Sisters and being a PYTHIAN SISTER.
Fayona will be an eighty year member this year too.
Fayona is a special person, willing to do what ever was asked of her and when asked, would give many words of wisdom.
