Spotlighting a Supreme Lodge Officer
| Supreme Chancellor |
Edwin H. Wright
The
Supreme Lodge at the 75th Convention in Los Angeles elected Edwin
“Ed” Wright Supreme Chancellor for the term 2010-2012. Stillman S.
Davis, 1872-1876, was the only other supreme chancellor from New
Hampshire.
Ed joined the Knights of Pythias in 1975, Trinity Lodge #56,
Plaistow, New Hampshire, was Grand Chancellor of New Hampshire in
1981 and 1995, Grand Treasurer 1985-1989, Grand Secretary from 2001
to the present time, and first was elected to Supreme Lodge office
as Supreme Inner Guard in 2004. He has served as president of the
New England Pythian Cathedral of the Pines, as president and
secretary of the Past Grand Chancellors Association, and as a
Supreme Representative eight times. For his activity in the Order
and his exceptional, distinguished community service he was made a
“Knight of the Golden Spur” in 2007.
Wright and his wife, Joyce, have lived in Plaistow since 1973; they
have two children and three grandchildren. He served in the U.S.
Marine Corps. He retired from Coca Cola of Northern New England
after 37 years, and has been actively involved in many local groups
and organizations outside the Pythian Order including Bethany
Masonic Lodge, AMVETS, the Municipal Budget Committee, fundraising
for the Crochet Mountain Residential Homes, and the First Baptist
Church. He was Master of Bethany Lodge two times. Joyce Wright was
Supreme Chief of the Pythian Sisters, 2000-2002.
The Order is based on the principles of Friendship, Charity, and
Benevolence, and at its 2010 convention added that those principles
be accomplished “through acts of Community Service.” In the past two
years, The Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters provided 500,000
hours of volunteer service.
As Supreme Chancellor, Wright is continuing among other programs the
Order’s work with the American Cancer Society and promotion of
Volunteer Service by brothers, as well as the promotion of
Friendship, adopting as a motto, “Extend Friendship: It’s
Priceless,” and concluding, “Above all remember to be friendly.”
The 76th Convention of the Supreme Lodge Knights of Pythias is
scheduled to be held in Manchester, New Hampshire, July 2012, which
is the first time in the history of the Order for the business
sessions to be conducted in New Hampshire.
